Queerslang 2017

Queerslang, WRFL’s annual LGBTQ cultural festival, returns this October! Queerslang is a music and learning festival celebrating Lexington’s lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and ally community.

Unlike in previous years, Queerslang is a week long event starting on October 9th and ending on the 14th. Every day brings a new array of events from workshops to film screenings and of course, concerts.

Monday includes a student organization fair located on Bowman’s walk from 1-3PM. Attendees can talk with a variety of University of Kentucky organizations about their resources for the LGBTQ community and don’t forget to grab a cup of hot chocolate and coffee while you are there! The festivities continue on Tuesday with workshops from GLSN and other organizations throughout the day.

Wednesday evening includes a screening of Born in Flames at 21C in downtown Lexington. Born in Flames is a feminist science fiction film by Lizzie Borden that touches on subjects like racism, sexism and heterosexism in an alternative world. Thursday afternoon features a panel discussion including Mayor Gray, Assistant Provost Hollingsworth and other community members and will be moderated by student body president, Ben Childress. If you are interested in submitting a question for the panel you can do so here

Kicking off the weekend, Friday starts with a walking tour of downtown Lexington and ends with a concert at the UK Art Museum.

Saturday is the end of the festivities with a blow out concert at ArtsPlace with headliner Trixe Mattel!

Keep up with our Facebook page for updates on the events that will be going on throughout the week!
