We’re hiring! WRFL is now accepting applications for five Board of Directors positions. If you are a current UK student and interested in becoming WRFL’s Programming Director II, Music Director, Production Director II, Promotions Director II, or Development Director, you can fill out your application at wrfl.fm/apply. Below, see the eligibility criteria and descriptions of each position.
Here are the eligibility requirements to apply:
- Must be a full-time or part-time student enrolled at the University of Kentucky
- Must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA minimum during their terms on the WRFL Board of Directors
- Must be in good standing with the University of Kentucky
- Must satisfy WRFL membership requirements
- If you don’t currently satisfy WRFL Membership Requirements you must be available to complete WRFL Membership Requirements on a timeline determined by the General Manager and Station Advisor
Programming Director II position description:
- Creating and overseeing WRFL’s broadcast schedule and monitoring broadcast for quality purposes
- Being on call 24/7 for programming emergencies
- Enforcing all FCC, UK, and WRFL policies for all General Staff members operating on the premises, as outlined in the Handbook, and reporting any incidents that violate these policies to the General Manager and Student Media Advisor
- Overseeing WRFL’s Traffic Log and monitoring adherence to the schedule
- Schedules and oversees all one-off on-air interviews and performances, in collaboration with the Production and Promotions Directors
- Overseeing the Programming Department
- Pay is $12/hour at a maximum of 20 hours per week (year-long and continues during the summer). In addition to hourly pay, each Programming Director receives a yearly half-tuition stipend
Music Director position description:
- Populating the playbox with new music on a regular basis (at least once a week)
- Overseeing and interfacing regularly with genre playbox directors
- Charting music with NACC weekly
- Distributing and managing music reviews
- Maintaining the station’s relationship with promoters
- Pay is $12/hour at a maximum of 20 hours per week (year-long and continues during the summer)
Production Director II position description:
- Overseeing all original productions in conjunction with the Production Director I, Development Director, Programming Director, and the Local Music Director
- Original productions include:
- General promos, artist IDs, block-shows, Safe Harbor announcements, campus calendars, and underwriting announcements
- WRFL-Live production
- Any live, on-air, or recorded performances requiring production assistance
- Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and replacement of live production gear
- Coordinating production for WRFL concerts and events
- Updating the Instant Replay and traffic items in the Traffic Guide on a regular basis
- Pay is $12/hour at a maximum of 20 hours per week (year-long and continues during the summer)
Promotions Director II position description:
- Overseeing all promotional efforts for WRFL including:
- Promotion of WRFL’s programming and broadcast schedule
- Writing on-air promotional materials including PSAs and Promos
- Campus event involvement/collaboration in conjunction with General Manager
- Promotional and social events for attracting new members in conjunction with the Membership Director and Production Directors
- Promotion to relevant academic programs (School of Journalism and Media, School of Business, School of Music, etc.) in conjunction with General Manager
- Oversee the Around Town page and maintain up-to-date information regarding events on and off-campus
- Assisting with event promotions for WRFL including:
- Sponsored concerts and other events (in particular the creation of press releases and on-air promo scripts)
- Campus involvement collaboration in conjunction with GM
- Input in design and distribution of marketing materials for events
- Contributing to WRFL’s social media account
- Writing, updating, and rotating PSAs
- Pay is $12/hour at a maximum of 20 hours per week (year-long and continues during the summer)
Development Director position description:
- Obtaining underwriting for programming; updating and maintaining WRFL underwriting package and a master list of local business contacts; and managing all communications and agreements with WRFL’s underwriters
- Coordinating the production and programming of new underwriting announcements in conjunction with Production and Programming Directors, managing deadlines, scripting for grant spots, deliveries, scheduling, and invoicing (with advisement from the Station Advisor) for all completed projects
- Creating and maintaining relationships with WRFL Alumni and other community supporters
- Tracking the usage of underwriting exchanges
- Pay is $12/hour at a maximum of 20 hours per week (year-long and continues during the summer). In addition to hourly pay, the Development Director receives a 15% commission for all sales made during each show cycle
